Labubu: Billion Dollar Babies

The 2020’s need their Trolls, Beanie Babies, Funko moment too!

For the past few months my IG explore page has cropped up these monchichi like monsters that are now adorned on bags and totes for that extra touch of personalization and status.

What is the saying? If the NY Times posts about it, its too late. I guess in me talking about it now, it's in its “bling bling era”. I still find the phenomenon fascinating.

Per reports (Complex), the CEO of Pop Mart, the distributor of Labubu, has made over $1.6 billion in a single day from the toys. The dolls are the work of artist Kasing Lung who designed them over a decade ago and are now on resale platforms such as Poshmark, StockX, and Ebay for over 2-3x their retail price and limited edition’s going for over 10x.

Will Labubu have staying power in 2025 or fade out like the zeitgeist of previous collectible

We have Erewhon at home.. I call it Airejuan

When I go to the west coast, mainly LA. I have to stop by Erewhon for snacks. Growing up in Southern California “all-natural” grocery stores, farmers markets, and farms are nothing new but still fun to go to. I like Erewhon for their private labeled snacks.. Especially their vegan and gluten-free Artisanal Spirulina Popcorn and I think I cracked the code so here is the recipe:

Serving Size 4

Popcorn:

• ⅓ cup of Popcorn Kernals

• 3 tbs of Coconut Oil

Seasonings:

• 1 tbs of Nutritional Yeast

• ½ tbsp Curry Powder

• ½ tbsp Garlic Powder

• ½ tsp Cayenne pepper

• ½ tsp black pepper

• ½ tsp Himalayan pink salt

• ¼ tsp Spirulina

1. On Medium heat, pour Coconut oil , test a popcorn kernel. When it pops, add more popcorn kernels and stir until popped (or get a popcorn popper or buy a pre-popped bag)

2. Combine Seasonings in a single dish and pour over popcorn

3. Voila!
