What’s old is new again but this time around the product is “prettier” nondescript and being led by women (celebrities and influencers). Google is back this time with their latest “enhancement” Gemini AI LLM, Samsung, and Gentle Monster, a South Korean eyewear company to reintroduce Google Glass (2013-2023) in the form of “intelligent eyewear. While they do that, Meta recruited Kylie Jenner to design Metaglasses, a competing intelligent eyewear that records what the user is looking at without an indicator informing someone they are being recorded.

These companies figured that having women in the forefront of surveillance wear, that the product would be generally acceptable and “safe”. Let’s not normalize this. First sign of distrust, exploitation and poor taste is anything Kardashian/Jenner related, including Timmy. Next is any tech company jumping in on products like “intelligent eyewear” when there has been a trail of innovative products that go nowhere like AR & VR glasses a few years back? 

How I’m taking care and trying not to melt. I’ve always had oily skin and it hasn’t let up with age.

With that said, I’ve been trying out some mattefying primers and have two that I like where I don’t look completely matte and dry but look oil absorbed throughout the day.

Blue Heron (on Criterion). Beautifully shot film about a family of six who move to Vancouver Island in the mid-90’s and try to balance settling in alongside the behavior of the eldest sibling. The film has been making the rounds the festival circuit (Canada Screen Awards, Hong Kong International Film Fest, San Sebastian International Film Fest) and is now one Criterion streaming and is being re-released in theatre.

The Invite: Word of mouth and a bad rainstorm got me to the theatre to see this one and I’m so glad I did. I wasn’t expecting much but got all the things. Olivia’s frozen facial expressions of horror, Edward Norton with the best monologue of the movie. Penelope Cruz is a full bodied character instead of the few lines she’s accustomed to in previous films years back, and Seth Rogen at his best. There are so many parallels with this film and it flows through it all. Niceties of being neighborly, the resentment of not following your passions because of partnerdom. It has it all and is not cute about it.
